We were super excited when we first heard about Federal Donuts. When we found out that we would be relocating to Philly people told us that this was a must try donut spot. After also seeing them featured on the Travel Channel we set a weekend when family was in town to make the journey for these tasty treats.

We decided to take the trip from Roxborough to the Center City location which is located on Sansom St in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. Upon arrival we could smell the sweet scents from outside and were excited to see that it was not overly crowded when we got there. We got to Federal Donuts around 10:30 a.m. which means it was too early for fried chicken. A little disappointing but I guess it is early and the donuts sure did not disappoint.

The donuts options are broken down into two categories, ‘Hot Fresh’ which includes choices of Vanilla Spice, Strawberry Lavender, and Cinnamon Brown Sugar. The other category is call ‘Fancy’ which includes choices of Chocoate Eclair, Lemon Meringue, Butter Pecan, The Might Quinn, Old Fashioned Glaze, and a Mike & Coffee donut.

There were 4 of us so we decided to order a half dozen to share and sample along with some coffees. We found a perfect spot in the window with a small ledge to put our stuff down and sit down. We were lucky to get our seats because right after we grabbed our donuts the line was stretched out the door. Our donuts of choice were (2) Cinnamon Brown Sugar, (2) Mighty Quinns, (1) Butter Pecan, and (1) Mike & Coffee. ALL amazing. Our favorites were the Cinnamon Brown Sugar & the Milk & Coffee. Our least favorite, but still good was the Butter Pecan which were super super sweet.

We are definitely going to return again to try the Fried Chicken which people seem to rave  about just as much as the donuts. When your in the Philadelphia area make sure you stop by one of the Federal Donuts locations and get yourself one of these amazing donuts.
